After Us, the Flood Selected as the Opening Film of the LUSCA Fantastic Film Festival
After Us, the Flood -film, directed by Arto Halonen and written by Ossi Hakala, has been selected as the opening film of the LUSCA Fantastic Film Festival, held this week in Puerto Rico. LUSCA is considered the most prominent genre film festival in the Caribbean region, showcasing a wide range of horror, fantasy, and science fiction films. This year, the festival takes place from October 15th to 22nd, marking its 19th edition.
After Us, the Flood previously opened the Avant-Garde Horror & Fantasy Film Festival in Croatia, where it also won the Best Feature Film award.
After Us, the Flood has quickly become a favorite on the international festival circuit, earning recognition and multiple awards at prestigious events worldwide.
In addition to the award received in Croatia, the film has also been honored with the Silver Méliès Grand Prize at the Science+Fiction Film Festival in Trieste, Italy, the Best Feature Film award at the Ravenheart International Film Festival in Norway, and the Best Director award at The Fantasy Film Festival in France.
During the autumn season, After Us, the Flood will compete in several international competitions, in addition to the LUSCA Festival, including the Monsters Fantastic Film Festival in Italy, the Histeria International Fantastic Film Festival in Costa Rica, the Science & Technology Film Festival in Poland, and the Africa International Film Festival in Nigeria.
The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) is regarded as one of the most significant film festivals on the African continent. Each year, over 3,500 films are submitted, with only a small percentage selected for the festival. Last year, only four non-African feature films were included in the international competition.
After Us, the Flood is a compelling drama that travels through time to explore relationships, identity, greed and the reasons why humans haven't yet been able to stop climate change.
The film stars Elias Westerberg, Linnea Leino, Tuomas Nilsson, Kasperi Kola, Petteri Summanen, Antti Reini, Pihla Penttinen, Jari Salmi, Tobias Zilliacus, Jemina Sillanpää, Robert Enckell, Hannu-Pekka Björkman, and Paavo Westerberg.
The creative team includes cinematographer Pini Hellstedt, editor Armands Začs, production designer Teppo Järvinen, sound designer Jevgenijs Kobzevs, composer Jēkabs Nīmanis, costume designer Jaana Aro, and makeup designer Maija Gundare. The film is produced by Arto Halonen, with Aija Bērziņa from Latvia serving as international co-producer.
